History

Glacier Glass was established in 1979 by Peter and Linda Halbgewachs. The company began as a literal Mom-and-Pop enterprise with Peter and Linda operating out of their own home in Regina and then moving to a small store location on 404 Quebec Street. At first it was a one man, one woman operation with Peter having the expertise and ambition to do the work involved in starting up his own glass shop and Linda efficiently managing all office duties. There was only one truck and one crew and yet no job was too small or difficult. They were willing to take on almost anything. Gradually the referrals spread and the company had to hire more staff and new crews to handle the workload. Peter and Linda's son, Jamie, joined the company in 1990 and worked along with his father to grow and expand the company. Eventually, the company took over new space to accommodate their growth and success, adding trucks and crews along the way.

Today, Glacier Glass Service Ltd. is Regina's largest independent Glass Shop and has grown to approximately 60 employees and operates a service truck fleet of around 20 vehicles. Their staff and installation crews are a group of experienced tradespeople that offer their customers a wealth of knowledge in the glass industry from commercial and residential flat glass, mirrors and heavy glass shower enclosures to auto glass and PVC products. With the company constantly growing, the Spring of 2010 saw them introduce a new PVC department specializing in quality fencing, decking and railing material to further increase their product line.

“It is very much a Family Business.” says Jamie Halbgewachs, now Vice President and General Manager. “I have two uncles and two brothers-in-law currently working with the company. Of course there are other employees who have been with the company for a long time and who are very much like family as well”. I think we have done a good job managing the family aspect. My dad and I are good partners and have always worked well together. We respect each other and have essentially grown the business together”.

Glacier Glass has flourished with the glass industry by keeping up with the latest technologies and innovative trends.
